Introduction

Soulmate in Morse code is ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . (S-O-U-L-M-A-T-E). It is written as one word with a single space between each of its eight letters. That makes 19 signals, 10 dots and 9 dashes, and no slash, because a slash only appears between words. At the 14 words per minute this page plays at, the whole word takes about 5.9 seconds to send.

Letter by letter

How to say soulmate in Morse code out loud

Out loud, soulmate is di-di-dit, dah-dah-dah, di-di-dah, di-dah-di-dit, dah-dah, di-dah, dah, dit. A dah lasts three times as long as a dit, and "dit" with a hard t marks the last dot of a letter, which is why the final E is a single "dit". Between letters, pause for about the length of one dah.

The word opens with S and O, three quick sounds and three long ones, the same pair that starts SOS, so most listeners lock onto the rhythm early. Flash above sends the pattern at 8 WPM, slow enough to count along. To practice it by hand, the Morse code tapper turns your short and long presses into letters as you go, so you can check you are tapping SOULMATE and not something close to it.

Soulmate as a bracelet: 26 pieces

A soulmate bracelet takes 26 pieces: 10 round beads for the dots, 9 long beads for the dashes and 7 small spacers that separate the eight letters. A single word needs no word ring, and only 4 mm beads keep the strand short enough for a typical wrist.

Bead size Strand length 7 in wrist
4 mm 5.8 in (14.7 cm) Fits, with about 0.6 in of bare cord each side
6 mm 8.7 in (22 cm) Too long for any 6 to 8 in wrist
8 mm 11.6 in (29.4 cm) Keychain or bookmark length

The bead calculator above produced these lengths by treating each dot as one bead width, each dash as 2.5 and each spacer as 0.6. Leave extra cord for knots and the clasp.

  1. Set out the seven spacers first, so there are eight empty letter slots.
  2. Fill the slots in order: S is three round; O is three long; U is round, round, long; L is round, long, round, round; M is two long; A is round, long; T is one long; E is one round.
  3. Count all 26 pieces, then look again at the last three slots, A, T and E, which hold only four beads between them.
  4. Open the pattern in the Morse code bracelet generator to choose bead colors and print the stringing guide.

Soulmate as a tattoo: what the stencil measures

The tattoo generator draws soulmate 3.4 inches (87 mm) wide in Fine line and 5.6 inches (143 mm) in Bold. A single line sits well on an ankle, forearm or collarbone but runs about 0.4 inch past the generator's 3 inch wrist limit. Stacked, with one letter per row, it becomes a narrow column 1.4 inches tall that fits even a finger.

Style Printed at 100% Fits in the generator
Fine line 3.4 in (87 mm) wide, 1.6 mm dots Ankle, forearm, collarbone
Bold 5.6 in (143 mm) wide, 2.6 mm dots Collarbone
Dots only 3.4 in (87 mm) wide; each dash is three touching dots Ankle, forearm, collarbone
Stacked 1.4 in tall, 0.65 in wide (35 × 16 mm) Wrist, finger, ankle, forearm, collarbone

The Fine line version clears the 3.5 inch ankle limit by less than a tenth of an inch, so print it before you commit to that spot. Export the stencil from the Morse code tattoo page as a 300 dpi PNG, print it at 100% and hold it against your skin. Your artist decides the final size; at strict ITU proportions soulmate is 69 dot-widths long, about 2.7 inches with 1 mm dots.

Check the MATE half before you ink or string it

SOUL carries 13 of the word's 19 signals. MATE carries just 6, spread over four of the shortest letters in Morse, and that is where a squeezed gap quietly turns into a different character.

If T and E touch, - . becomes -. (N) and the word reads SOULMAN. M pressed against A reads --.- (Q), A against T reads .-- (W), and A, T and E run together read .--. (P). Leave every letter gap visibly longer than the spacing within a letter.

Read the finished design back before it becomes permanent. Type its dots and dashes into the Morse decoder with a space between letters and confirm it returns SOULMATE and nothing else. On a bracelet, a missing spacer between the last two beads causes the same SOULMAN error as a tight stencil gap, so count all seven spacers.

Soulmate or soul mate: one word or two?

Both spellings use the same eight letters and the same 19 signals; only the pause in the middle changes. Written as two words, soul mate is ... --- ..- .-.. / -- .- - ., where the slash stands for a seven-unit word gap instead of a three-unit letter gap.

That longer pause adds about 0.3 seconds at 14 WPM, 6.3 seconds against 5.9. On a bracelet, the spacer after L becomes a word ring, so the count stays at 26 pieces and the 4 mm strand grows to about 5.9 inches. On skin, the wider gap pushes the Fine line stencil to 3.6 inches, just past the 3.5 inch ankle limit, so use the one-word spelling if the ankle is your spot.

My soulmate, you are my soulmate and other versions

My soulmate in Morse code is -- -.-- / ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . (two words): two words, 25 signals and about 8.5 seconds at 14 WPM. Every added word brings its own slash, and apart from soulmates, none of these lines fits a 7 inch wrist even with 4 mm beads.

Phrase Morse code Signals At 14 WPM
My soulmate -- -.-- / ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . 25 8.5 s
Soulmates ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . ... 22 6.6 s
Soulmates forever ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . ... / ..-. --- .-. . ...- . .-. 41 12.6 s
Forever my soulmate ..-. --- .-. . ...- . .-. / -- -.-- / ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . 44 14.5 s
You are my soulmate -.-- --- ..- / .- .-. . / -- -.-- / ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . 41 14.5 s
I found my soulmate .. / ..-. --- ..- -. -.. / -- -.-- / ... --- ..- .-.. -- .- - . 42 14.3 s

Couples often add initials or a wedding date. Initials stay fairly short, since SOULMATE A J is 25 signals, but every digit is five signals, so SOULMATE 2026 jumps to 39. For the single words on their own, see forever and I love you.

  1. Type the full line, names included, into the Morse code translator and leave out punctuation; an apostrophe or comma adds six signals each.
  2. Press Play sound once and listen for the longer pauses that separate the words.
  3. For a tattoo, choose Stacked so each letter gets its own row (you are my soulmate becomes a 3.4 inch column); for beads, move anything longer than your wrist to a necklace or keychain.

How long does it take to send soulmate in Morse code?

About 5.9 seconds at 14 WPM, which is the speed of Play sound and the WAV file. Flash slows to 8 WPM, stretching the light version to about 10.3 seconds, while a 20 WPM operator finishes it in 4.1 seconds.

Is there a Morse code abbreviation for soulmate?

No. The ITU and ARRL lists behind our Morse code abbreviations page have no short form for soulmate. The nearest affectionate code is 88, love and kisses; on jewelry or skin, spell the word out.

Which letter in soulmate is easiest to get wrong?

Can I add a name or date to a soulmate bracelet?

Yes, as separate words with a ring between them, but the strand gets long fast. With 4 mm beads, SOULMATE A J is 34 pieces and 8 inches, and SOULMATE 2026 is 50 pieces and 12.2 inches, so both suit a necklace or keychain better than a 7 inch wrist.

Is this International Morse code?

Yes. Every pattern on this page follows the International Morse table in ITU-R M.1677-1, so a radio operator, a decoder app or the person who receives your gift reads SOULMATE the same way.
